Oswego, 38 miles southwest of the Loop along the scenic Fox River, is a lovely village that charms house hunters with its quiet and lush countryside. Oswego is a Mohawk Indian word meaning "mouth of the stream". Townes Crossing Shopping Center, Douglas Square Center, Mason Square and Oswego Plaza make up the shopping district. Main Street is the traditional downtown shopping arena, with antiques markets, clothing shops and restaurants and the Oswego Public Library - a community center for learning - culture and recreation. The downtown area is home to 66 small businesses and has a very low vacancy rate.
Schools
Oswego residents rave about elementary school District 308. Many new residents look at the quality schools as the reason they moved to Oswego. The district serves students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The school district has an excellent math program, as shown by consistently high scores on the Illinois Goal Assessment Test.
Medical Facilities
Oswego is served by the Rush-Copley Medical center, a 142-bed academic community hospital that offers a cancer center, hearing institute, physical rehabilitation and state-of-the-art fitness facility. In addition, Provena-Mercy Center and Edward Hospital are within 20 minutes of Oswego.
Transportation
The East-West Tollway (I-88) is eight miles from Oswego, for a 70-minute drive to the Loop. O'Hare and Midway airports take 90 and 60 minutes, respectively. Metra rail commuters catch the train in Aurora for a 75-minute trip to the Loop on locals, and a 50-minute trip on the express.
Recreation
The Park District is also building an extensive bicycle path system and a new aquatic center.
